WELLNESS ON WEDNESDAY
Why Wednesday? To make each day count (note the Titanic reference), even Wednesday! Moreover, magnificent results are guaranteed in the long run if you can jiggle in an extra self-care day midweek.
What do we call ‘wellness’? No, not a hot tub , although I would sure love to spend my afternoon in one. Wellness is a conscious lifestyle choice of healthy living and experiencing life to the fullest. It is much more than just “not being unwell”. Wellness is a self-improvement process, which we need now more than ever!
On Wednesdays, I would like to provide you with some useful tips and ideas. I have a lot to share, as I have been practicing holistic spa for 15 years. This is my profession. I live for it it.
Let’s start with an easy, yet gorgeous tip on how to relax!
We are obviously surrounded by stress, but our immune system needs to recharge and rest in order to stay strong. Here comes the power of herbs! A cup of lemongrass, or St. John's-wort tea for more extreme cases.
Lemongrass
Known for being a great nerve booster and relaxant. Recommended for sleeping disorders, early depression, soothing and anxiety-induced heart problems. It contains antiviral polyphenols, which halves the chance of catching any infectious diseases. Recommended dose is a maximum 3 cups/day.
St. John's-wort
In tea form, it serves as a wonderful antidepressant and a mighty immune booster. Known to be a general mood enhancer, which helps with anxiety and acts as a sedative.Recommended for seasonal depression, mental illness and stuttering. Take a break after six weeks if consuming on a regular basis.
What makes our day of wellness complete is eye care. Not only because it lays unprotected above our masks, but also because
- the skin is paper thin in this area, four times thinner than anywhere else on our face
- there’s a lot of movement going on around the eyes (mimicry), which is why the first lines will appear around here
- with almost zero sebaceous glands, it is prone to dehydration and lacks firmness
- low blood- and lymphatic circulation can cause under eye circles and bags
- it’s the first to show signs of irritation: wind, sun, pollution, smoke and screen light affect this area the most
WW Tip for a 30-minute relaxation:
- Make a cup of tea from 1 teaspoon of herbs
- Clean your face paying extra attention to the eye area
- Light a scented candle
- Turn on some relaxing music
- Put on an eye mask
